Year 1832, on October 23 court came into session at the offices of the magistrate of Ringerike at the farm Knæstang, for judgment in the case against Knud Thostensen Røsbyeje. The court consisted of Magistrate Mydell and the court members Carl Riis and Martin Thams.
In this aforementioned case the following sentence was declared:
With the defendant Knud Thostensen Røsbyeje's own confession made during the interrogation on the 23rd previous month, and repeated and acknowledged during this trial, with the statements of the witnesses and the declaration of the victim of the theft, Anders Jonsen Dahl, it has been proven in this trial that the defendant Knud Thostensen Røsbyeje on 29th of August this year, as he was walking to his work on the farm Ask, stole from the fields a sheep belonging to cotter Anders Jonsen Dahl, which he, under pretenses of having been given permission to sell same sheep to aquire clothing for his approaching confirmation, sold to Madame Majoresse Neumann for 1 Speciedaler 1 shilling, whereof he was immediately paid 1 Spd.
Knud Thostensen Røsbyeje, who is above the age of criminal responsibility, but not previously accused or sentenced for theft, will thus recieve punishment for petty theft. As he is young, not yet confirmed, and in a state of utter poverty, the court finds the degree of punishment suggested by the court reporter appropriate.
As the sheep has been returned and Major Neumann will not be demanding the return of monies not already returned to him, damages will not be sought, and the Defendant will be liable for all legal costs resulting from the trial, including 6 Spd as salary for the court reporter, Procurator Saxild.
The conduct in this trial has been legal. Thus is declared just.
The defendant Knud Thostensen Røsbyeje should for first time petty theft work at the Punishment House of Akershus county for 2, two Months, and also pay all costs resulting from his Arrest and this trial including travel and accommodation expenses for the judge and court reporter, all according to such bills as are approved by the county, and also the salary for court reporter Procurator Saxild.
The sentence will commence fifteen days after the legal proclamation of this sentence.
