Obituary from Elkhart truth
ELKHART -- Lewis T. Corpe Jr., 81, of Elkhart, died at 7:05 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 10, 2010) in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Elkhart to Lewis T. and Inga (Knutson) Corpe Sr.
He is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Johnson of Elkhart; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Delores (William) Bair of Edwardsburg, Mich.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cruie and LaVerne Corpe.
Mr. Corpe graduated from Elkhart High School and was employed at Miles Laboratories for 38 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War who was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Miles, Beekeepers Association, Elkhart Conservation Club, Disabled American Veterans, Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, 403 W. Franklin St., Elkhart. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Military graveside rites at Faith Mausoleum, Rice Cemetery, will follow rendered by the DAV Chapter 19.
