     Anna Karlsrud was born on 1 May 1905 at Hen, Ådal sogn, Ringerike, Buskerud.¹ She was christened on 4 June 1905 at Ytre Ådal (Hval) sogn, Ringerike, Buskerud. Witnesses were Karl Gudbrandsen Tuftin and Inger Thorine Gulbrandsen Tuftin.¹

      Berthe Marie Olsdatter Torstensen was also known as Berte Maria Olsdatter.³ She was born on 26 July 1905 at Bråten (Strømsbråten), Sør-Aurdal, Oppland.⁴ She was christened on 27 August 1905 at Begnadalen sogn, Sør-Aurdal prestegjeld, Oppland.⁴

     With the possible exception of Osvald, none of Ole and Karine's ten children lived to see their majority. In 1910 Olga died at age 1, with no cause of death registered. In 1914 Ole died of encephalitis at age 19. Then, between 1915 and 1921, seven of Ole and Karine's eight remaining children died from tuberculosis. Inger Torine at age 12, Maren at 19, Teodor at 4, Kristian at 18, Torvald at 20, Hanna at 14 and Berte Maria at 16. (Records after 1921 haven't been examined.).⁶
